The newest development in hair transplantation

acell® MARTISTEM™ is an FDA approved agent indicated to promote wound healing at the site of an injury or non-healing wound.

This product when injected into the scalp or eyebrow area has promoted hair growth by regenerating the follicular tissues. It is be used to stimulate your hair follicle’s stem cells and promote the growth of more robust hair from thinning follicles. The results is MORE hair, and THICKER hair. It may be used as an injection alone or together with Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP).

What is Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)?

Most patients would rather not have to undergo any type of surgical procedure- even one as relatively easy as a hair transplant- if they can avoid it. That is where the therapies discussed on this page may fit in for you to help with the treatment of hair loss.

How is PRP used in Hair Regrowth?

PRP Platelet Rich Plasma is the use of a person’s own blood platelets to enhance hair growth as a stand-alone treatment or to improve the recovery and results of hair transplant surgery. In the field of tissue regeneration, research is continuing to progress regarding the use of PRP’s ability to stimulate stem cells, improve wound healing, and rejuvenate skin and hair follicles.

How is PRP performed as a stand-alone treatment for hair growth?

A small sample of blood is obtained from the patient. This sample is processed in an FDA-cleared device to separate the platelets from other components like red blood cells. Platelets are then chemically ‘activated,’ releasing powerful molecules which have profound biologic effects on hair follicles and skin. Under comfortable local anesthesia, this powerful cocktail of growth factors, cytokines and other proteins is injected into the area of scalp where weak hair follicles exist.

Is all PRP the same?

Unfortunately not, and this is where it can get confusing for patients. At Ava Hair Restoration, we use the FDA approved Autologel PRP process to separate and activate Platelet Rich Plasma for use as a stand-alone therapy or in conjunction with hair transplantation.

Does PRP need to be repeated?

Currently, patients who have completed this procedure in the past 2-3 years have not had to get it repeated. Over time, the course of treatment may need to be repeated depending on the patient’s response to therapy, hair loss condition and goals. By monitoring the hair growth effect over time, we can determine when the improvement in hair growth slows down.

Is PRP Platelet Rich Plasma safe?

Yes. PRP is immunologically neutral and poses no danger of allergic, hypersensitivity or foreign-body reactions. Sterile technique is used in every stage to prevent infection.

  • Suffering from thinning hair and tired of seeing scalp through hair
  • Early in hair loss process or younger patient
  • Want thicker hair
  • Prior hair transplant patient without much donor hair

The treatment takes 3 hours and is performed using local anesthesia on an out-patient basis, often with some supplemental oral medication for sedation. Patients are awake, but feel very relaxed because of the effect of the sedative. There is typically very little discomfort during the procedure.

Not everyone is a candidate for the ACell and PRP treatment. A scalp analysis is done to see if you would benefit.
